This scholarship was established by the family of James Spanbauer (1942-2018). Jim was a true champion of technical education, learning auto mechanics by working at Waupun Auto Sales, and then teaching auto mechanics at Fox Lake Correctional Institution until his retirement in 2001. During his 28+ year career, he provided instruction to hundreds of men who enrolled in his classes. While teaching the basics of automotive repair was the focus of his classes, students also learned the value of giving their best effort, staying on task, being thorough in their work, and taking pride in their accomplishments. These skills were likely more valuable than any lessons they learned about automotive repair. He also used his technical knowledge in his love for racing cars and flying model airplanes. Jim was a dedicated family man who could fix anything and was always helping others to learn.
