Chipper Hawthorne Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is established by Chipper Hawthorne, LLC to benefit students enrolled in the Nursing program. I often remember the wonderful health care provided by the nursing staff during my wife's time in the ICU. The support they provided to me made me feel cared for, well-informed, and better able to cope with the situation. Nurses are the health care professionals who spend the most time with patients and their families during their hospital stay. In many ways, nurses end up being fitness coaches and cheerleaders, grief counselors and hand-holders for their patients and their patients' family through the emotional challenges. My wife believed in the power of education and surely had found memories of her caregivers. This scholarship helps pay forward her nurses' passionate care for her to new students entering the field.

Walter Kandel Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is for a student enrolled in the CNC/Tool & Die program on the West Bend campus.

This scholarship was created to honor Walter Kandel’s exceptional life, and to provide Moraine Park students with an affordable education and opportunities for a brighter future.

Walter Kandel can best be described as hardworking, adventurous, and intelligent.  Born in 1913 in Manistique, Michigan, Walter grew up in a small cabin with very limited means.  At a young age, he traveled to southern Wisconsin where he met and married the love of his life, Dorothy Junk.  Although he did not complete high school, Walter worked hard and was not afraid to try new things.  Walter taught himself to play several musical instruments and enjoyed providing entertainment for evening gatherings of family and friends.  Walter was gifted with a sharp mechanical mind and was a skilled lathe operator and carpenter.  Walter’s precision and attention to detail made him a valued employee at Gehl Company in West Bend for over 35 years.  Walter also enjoyed spending time outdoors, including many hours hunting and fishing.  Walter Kandel passed away in 2000 at the age of 86.
