Alois Eilbes Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was created to honor Alois Eilbes’ exceptional life, and to provide Moraine Park students with an affordable education and opportunities for a brighter future.
Alois Eilbes loved his family, his country, and carpentry. He was born on July 4, 1917 in LeRoy, Wisconsin, and spent his youth living and working on the family farm. Alois proudly served his country for 4 ½ years in the South Pacific during World War II and, in 1945, returned home to marry his childhood sweetheart, Kathryn Junk. Alois and Kathryn settled in West Bend where Alois designed and built their first home. He gained his old world carpentry skills from an uncle who immigrated to the United States from Germany in 1908. Throughout the years, Alois gained an excellent reputation as a skilled carpenter and craftsman, and was in demand throughout the West Bend area. At the age of 88, Alois retired from his construction business to take care of his beloved wife. Alois, who is described by his family as caring, smart, hardworking, and gentle, passed away in 2010 at the age of 92.
